For those not in the medical field, a code means the pt. is "coding" - pt is not either 1) getting air (in this case) or 2) having a cardiac arrest. Well, it just so happens I was in the ICU with a technician, delivering meds and such when this code happened. So, the tech stated that students and actual pharmacists respsond to codes.... and sure enough, as EVERYONE flocks to respond to this code, so does the pharmacist with the emergency drug box, and she goes right up to the pts. bedside, aand stands next to the anesthesiologist. So, I am watching what the pharmacist is doing... as I am leearning what she is doing. And then she instructs me to go into the room, so I am able to see everything, as a means of learning...... oh my god, it was hectic and so stressful..... I think I felt my adrenaline pump all the way to the tips of my fingers.....
sad news is the pt didnt not survive, but it was quite a learning experience and amazing to see how all the healthcare individuals came together to work for one cause, and how they tried their damndest to save the pts. life. I have to say it was quite emotional, because I felt incredibly for their family, however the family knew it was a long shot, because she was very ill and not doing very well anyway. Just an unbelievable day yesterday was....
