So, in continuation of my "transformation"...
hahaha, I have like 4 or 5 different names for my "new" life..... but, whatever you call it is great and making me feel better everyday. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SUPPORTED ME (some on here, and some not on here)- I have had frustrations and such since beginning this journey; so I'm not perfect... but it's getting there!!! I had a bad day at work.... and then Zach was crabby, and so instead of arguing... I needed "me time" to unwind, and after that- we'd connect and talk and figure out what our deals were. Such a grown up way of resolving things!!!!
So, in continuation of my "transformation"... I have been wanting to explore this Green movement. Well, thats what I am calling it.
In growing up over the past 5 years (translation: In the past, I have always been very reliant on my relationships - I went from my parents home, got married, and moved to another state and lived with my husband... never had to pay bills before I got married, never had roomates (siblings, no roomates))
In growing up over the past 5 years, I have realized what it means to be more conscious about the environment and be more environmentally friendly. Example, now- we pay for recycling... why not use it? Well, thats how I used to think recently, and recycling became something like yeah, if I get around to it......
Now I want to be the "yes, we recycle" person..... and the person that says: "hey wait a sec, we can recycle that!" I have done some reading and such and read about the plastic issue..... I use plastic bags... and I used to use them for everything! Well, I can say that I am going to stop overloading the world of these plastic bags, I want my kids to see this world as beautiful as it really is naturally. I want to take my own bags to the store - and so I can keep them in my car whenever I go to the store. And, ask the bagger to bag my items in my bags instead of plastic bags or even paper bags.... now I do have a question bout this, since I havent done it yet, but am getting started:
do I need to tip the bagger if he/she bags the stuff into my own bags? I just wasnt sure, and wanted to make sure I do this right....
I also am going to begin to explore the world of organics.... but with how expensive things are now... I'm just going to try and do something organic every week.... just to see if I see a difference or not..... just thought whilee I'm making strides to make myself better, I would also try and make environmentally strides also.
I am starting small... babysteps folks..... so I am not thnking of starting to change everything about how I have done things.... I have made stride from the time I was 21 to now, when I'm 26... so we'll just keep pushing on. So, it took me 2 days to write this blog, cause I got side tracked when I was trying to write it...so Im not entirely sure all what this blog was supposed to be about, but I know I wanted to talk about Green stuff..... so, it is what it is..... I need to focus and finsih my blogs when I start them.... then, I'll remember to be honest and complete about my thoughts!!!! >:)
Until the next chapter ~

hi! i stumbled upon your blog (somehow... i follow lots of links and often have no clue how i ended up somewhere! lol)
in answer to your question, no tipping of the bagger is expected. i don't know where you live, but in Nor Cal we don't tip, and we have A LOT of people using their own bags. me included. i learned to sew just so i could make my own bags. i have to shop at evil-mart and i got really tired of bringing home 112 plastic bags after grocery shopping. i am amazed at how much i can fit in reusable bags!! many stores have started selling them too.
if you are looking for a good resource for reusable bags, check out etsy.com. by buying homemade items you can be even greener as you are not buying into a system that contributes to environmental degradation with production and shipping en mass. plus you are supporting artisans. :)
good luck with getting green. it is often a little more work, but after a while it becomes second nature.
No, you don't need to tip them. And in fact, grocery stores are supposed to give you a $0.05-0.10 credit per bag that you use. Most stores forget but if you remind them. It's not much but hey, every cent counts right?
My biggest problem is that the baggers don't fill the bags that full, but the cloth bags can hold A LOT more weight than normal plastic or paper bags so tell them to stuff them as full as the can, I've never had one break on me!
And anytime you want to talk about organic food, you know where to find me! I am reading a really good book right now, that i would recommend to anyone who is thinking of going green or looking into organic/locally grown food. It's called "The Omnivore's Dilema" by Michael Pollan.
you big odrk no you dont tip them! also, you are doing something good for the store so they give you a credit, plus i actually think most baggers are no longer allowed to accept tips.
also yay for you.
and i am not sure if you have a safeway but they were selling great bags that roll up into themselves and don't take up a lot of space, but they were selling them buy one get one free
even target has a bag now. its prety cool, they took old target plastic bags and melted em together in one super strong neat looking bag...also, target is giving people who live in california a credit if they brig back their old plastic target bags
